We are twinned with
Battir Women’s Co-operative
Battir Co-operative Society is a women’s worker co-op based in the hilly village of Battir in the occupied West Bank, Palestine. The village is a place of international significance due to its terraced agricultural land and unique irrigation system dating back to the Roman period, and has held UNESCO World Heritage Site status since 2014.
The women’s co-operative was started in 2015 and has since grown from 5 to 18 members. Its aim is to create an income for the women of Battir by growing, processing and selling food. The women grow olives, herbs, oranges, aubergines, tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables on a small scale using organic methods, and process these into oils, jams and pickles.
Fruit Works Co-operative is proudly twinned with Battir Co-operative Society for Food Processing and Production.
What do we mean by ‘twinning’?
By connecting with Battir Co-operative Society, we aim to offer our friendship and solidarity to our Palestinian counterparts by sharing their stories, amplifying their voices and helping them feel seen and heard as they continue to live under the injustice of Israeli occupation.
It has felt incredibly jarring going about our daily lives for the past 2 years while witnessing the genocide of Palestinians unfold in real time on our screens. For us and Battir Co-operative, this is a small but meaningful gesture and act of hope in the collective fight for a free Palestine.
Help us raise money for Battir Women’s Co-operative
Tourism has long been the main source of income for Battir Women’s Co-operative, but with the ongoing genocide in Gaza, tourism has declined.
The cooperative needs support to keep going and cover the basic costs of running their daily activities. Fruit Works Co-operative is raising funds to help the women continue their work, support their families, and preserve a vital part of Palestinian culture.
Donations of any amount would be greatly appreciated. 100% of donations go directly to Battir Women’s Co-operative.
